💳 Fixed Indemnity: Cash for the Everyday Visits
A high deductible doesn’t care that it’s “just” a doctor visit. Fixed indemnity pays you a set cash amount for everyday care — before your deductible even enters the picture.
🩹 What does fixed indemnity actually pay?How It Works
Underwritten by Golden Rule Insurance Company, these plans pay a set, predetermined cash amount — paid directly to you — for covered doctor visits, urgent care trips, hospital days, prescriptions, and diagnostic tests. The payout doesn’t depend on your deductible, your copay, or what your major medical plan already covers.
🧮 What does that look like in a real visit?Example
An employee visits urgent care for an ear infection. The major medical plan applies the full $250 charge to the deductible — $250 out of pocket. The fixed indemnity plan pays a separate $100 cash benefit for that same visit, straight to the employee. Net out-of-pocket: $150 instead of $250.
📜 Does this replace my real health insurance?Rules
No. It’s a supplemental, “excepted benefit” policy that sits underneath or alongside your primary plan. It does not satisfy ACA Minimum Essential Coverage on its own.
🎒 Can I keep it if I change jobs?Portability
In most cases, yes — these are typically issued on an individual certificate, so coverage travels with the person, not the job.
