I’m Matthew Reilly, a licensed California health, life, and group insurance agent. Calaveras County is Mark Twain’s jumping frog country in the Sierra foothills, and local employers can get a group plan benchmark or a new group plan from me by phone, video, and text.

Calaveras County gets its name from the Spanish word for skulls. Explorer Gabriel Moraga reportedly used it for the river after finding many skulls along its banks in 1806. San Andreas is the county seat, and about 45,000 people live here. Mark Twain spent time in the county in 1865 and heard the tale that became his jumping frog story at a hotel in Angels Camp, and the town still holds a frog-jumping event. Local employers include county government, forestry and fire protection, a hospital, wineries, and small construction and tourism businesses. Always confirm that your doctors and hospitals are in a plan’s network before you enroll.
🏢 What group health options exist for Calaveras County employers?Carrier Access
Employers in Calaveras County have access to the broader California small- and large-group market through the carrier network I work with through our vendor partners. Which carriers have active networks in your exact location depends on which hospital systems and medical groups your employees use — I confirm the real, current list for your ZIP code before you ever see a quote, rather than promising specific carrier names up front.
📋 Does group size work differently in Calaveras County than the rest of California?Group Size
No — the small group (1–50 employees) vs. large group (51+) split, participation minimums, and open enrollment timing are all set at the state and federal level, not the county level. What does change locally is which hospital systems and medical groups are strongest in your employees’ network. See the Coverage Guide for how group size and plan rules work statewide.
🤝 Do I need a local agent, or can you help from outside Calaveras County?Remote Access
I’m licensed to sell health and life insurance throughout California, and most of my clients handle everything by phone, text, and video — comparing options, signing paperwork, and getting enrolled without ever needing an in-person meeting. Calaveras County employers get the same attention and the same carrier access as my Orange County clients; I just handle it remotely instead of walking into your office.
📍 Which cities in Calaveras County do you work with?Service Area
Incorporated city: Angels Camp is Calaveras County’s only incorporated city — the county seat, San Andreas, is unincorporated.
Valley Springs and Copperopolis are well-known unincorporated communities in the county. I’m licensed statewide — reach out and I’ll confirm coverage for your exact address.
🥊 Do You Really Need a PEO?
👨⚕️ “Thinking about a PEO? Many lock you into one benefit structure, with admin fees built in.”
👩⚕️ “Here you get the HR tech, the compliance support, the Professional Suite at no additional cost, and full freedom to choose across the open market. What made a PEO sound appealing in the first place?”
