How I got started
I started in life insurance. It’s important work, but I kept running into the same feeling: most of what I sold paid out after someone was gone. I wanted to help people while they were still here, with the coverage they use every day.
That feeling gave me a reason, and the time, to research. I reached out to every company I could find and asked each one the same question: why should I join your group over theirs?
HealthMarkets stood out. They backed up their answer with resources, and with access to a live agent chat where agents across the company help each other solve really hard challenges every day. When a client’s situation is tricky, I’m not figuring it out alone.
What HealthMarkets says agents get
Here’s what HealthMarkets lists on its own careers site for independent agents:
- 🎓 Training and onboarding on products, sales, regulations and carriers, plus help getting licensed if you’re not licensed yet.
- 🤝 Mentors, senior leader guidance and ongoing coaching that continues past your first 90 days.
- 💻 Software tools, including a CRM, a mobile virtual business card app and a lead marketplace.
- 📞 Lead options, such as live transfer calls, inbound inquiries and online quote requests, backed by national advertising.
- 🛠️ Back-office support for tech, phone support and commission status.
- 📅 Your own schedule. Agents work as independent contractors and set their own pace.
- 💰 Low startup cost. HealthMarkets says there are no franchise fees.
